At the risk of sounding formal, I will sometimes refer to myself as “the legend himself.” After countless unsuccessful attempts to write my own bio- I have finally come to terms with the fact that I should not care about it so much. It’s my story- and it’s never going to be good enough in words. “The legend himself” is a singer- a songwriter- a guitar player- a mediocre piano player- as well as a mustache enthusiast. Unfortunately, these talents don’t quite pay all the bills just yet- but hey- we gotta pay our dues somehow. So in order to make ends meet and feed my inner child- I make the gravy on the weekends as a DJ and an Emcee. Don’t ask me where I spin. ‘Cause then I would have to tell you that “I’m not that kind of DJ”, slap you in the face, and then run away crying. “The legend himself” gets dressed in a slick-ass tux and tends to brides, grooms, and sugarhigh Jewish children-and that his how I can afford to make music, movies, and put up sweet MySpace pages like this. So far, my claim to fame is the documentary I made about the “under 30 mustache.” It’s called “The Glorius Mustache Challenge” and you can enlighten yourself by visiting the website-which was the highest visited website in the entire country for 20 seconds in 2006. www.gloriusmustache.com It earned me the title “Godfather of The Modern Mustache” and also the position “Chairman Emeritus” of “The American Mustache Institute.” Seriously. I started writing music when I was 13- but that was just one song and it sounded like a prepubescent version of “Haddaway.” I played in numerous bands throughout my teens and early early 20s’s, but I didn’t write my own music again until I was 23. There I was, young & hungry- with a broken heart. Throw some “Dashboard Confessional” in there—and you have the ingredients for a beautifully poetic emotional disaster. I used the angst to develop my abilities as a singer and songwriter. I teamed up with many musicians, producers, beautiful women, and coffee pots- to bring together the appropriate elements you will hear in my music. All the time wearing my heart on my sleeve, trying to be as honest as possible, not taking myself too seriously, and striving to make music that is a reflection of who I am and how I experience my life. I just recently released my 4th “collection of Della Valle tunes,” Stay Gold. It’s a bunch of supercharged rock- ridden pop odysseys- which pretty much means you will like it if you’re not one of those anti-pop ultra hipster deuschbags that likes to complain when anyone writes something catchy and somewhat mainstream. I like and write catchy POP! Rock music. I like it slow. I like it fast. I like it when it makes me feel good-and I judge music by those standards alone. My goal write now is to get on TOUR! I've been writing, recording, and playing gigs in New Jersey and New York for a while. I'm anxious to expand and expose. Expose the music- not myself. THE SILENTREATMENT began in 2005, when Anthony Giamusso began searching for bandmates to help create his musical vision. Pain Killer Hotel
What will be the magic ingredient behind the success of Painkiller Hotel first album "Black Roses"? Gimmick? Scandal? Hype? None of the above. The Illinois quartet comprised of Kevin "Eddie Prez" Presbrey (Guitar/VOX), Jeff Kissel (Drums), Adam Harker (Bass) and Leif Hendrixon (Guitar) aims to earn success with a steadfast determination to succeed, a tenacious work ethic and, oh yeah, some memorable songs. "We made our name by making good music," explains Painkiller Hotel's vocalist and main songwriter, Prez. "I'm extremely proud of what this band has been able to achieve without the help of some crazy image. People are drawn to the band based on the strength of the music, not because our moms sued us in court or our mug shots were on FOX NEWS." With the pending release of band's first album for Severe Records, "Black Roses," Prez says he believes their new music will help people put a face to Painkiller Hotel's music. "Black Roses" features ten tracks produced by Chris Sevier (Matt Woods, Eliot Morris, The Livin' Legend, Chance, Mista D, Paris Luna) and mixed by George Tutko (Duran Duran, Blondie, Rod Stewart, John Cougar, and The Rolling Stones). Their first album captures a band that is mature enough to know its strengths, and ambitious enough to try new things. "Coming into this record, our goals were to show how much this band has progressed after touring and waiting until we had perfected our live show," explains Prez. We wanted to bring in a producer who was similar to Desmond Child (Bon Jovi, Aerosmith) to help perfect our songs, and that's exactly why Chris Sevier was perfect for this record. Also, we aimed to refine what we do best as a band and give ourselves room to branch out in different directions." "Black Roses" does just that by combining Painkiller Hotel's knack for surging anthems-"Lead Me On" and "Your All I Ever Wanted"-and dark rockers-"Weakness" and "You Don't Know What Your Missing"-with more experimental tracks-"Brightest Flame" and "Voice In My Head." While the albums' first single, "Lead Me On" distills the best elements of Painkiller Hotel's music-shifting dynamics, huge choruses and tight arrangements-the quartet was eager to throw away the map and explore various sonic avenues on "Black Roses." That adventurous spirit is evident in the tripped out textures of "Changes," a song that Prez and Sevier came up with by coming up with the melody first instead of a guitar riff. "I didn't plan for it to sound like a roots-rock song, but that's the way it came together naturally so I decided to go with it." That attitude, serving the best interest of the song instead of serving your ego as an artist, became an important part of the recording process, explains bassist Adam Harker. We've all been guilty of adding something to a song that makes us feel better artistically, but takes away from the song as a whole," he says. "When we started recording, we made a serious effort to check our egos at the studio door and serve the song first," Interjects drummer Mike Krull. Painkiller Hotel earned its stripes playing the regional bars and clubs throughout the Midwest over the past few years. Their grassroots support for the band caught the attention of Severe Records, which signed Painkiller Hotel this fall to a non-exclusive one album deal with the possibility of up streaming. Once the record is officially released in 2007, the band will launch a radio promotion campaign through Tinderbox Music, a publicity campaign, and tour across the states, leaving just enough time to shoot some music videos in between. Kazy has been waiting to happen for quite some time. Kazy is a struggle to break out, to move ahead, to unlock the restraints, to face the fear, to find a way, any way to make it there. To find that peace we know is out there somewhere. Im after it, and Kazy is the reflection of the journey. As Kazy will have its presentation and marketing, it will be secondary to writing the best music possible with as much conviction and passion that exists in me. As much as I am excited to bring this to the public eye, it serves as a therapy for me personally to reach within me and pull out the emotions to make this music as convicting as possible. The hope is in that people will feel something real, something tangible, something that will give them chills or make them cry, let them relate or want to write their own song. Katie was a finalist in Milwaukee's 2002 Big Break Competition, in Ireland's 2003 Reach Contest, 2006's International Songwriting Competition, and General Motors' 2006 Music Contest. she also won Chicago Metromix's "Rock 'n' Vote" 2005. And with over 3,700 friends on MySpace.com, headlining a packed House of Blues last year, and having just performed at Lollapalooza 2006, Katie Todd clearly makes no time for wasting.
Ash Avenue
Ash Avenue formed in April of 2005, but their history spans over a decade. Rob Merz, Jim Brennan and Chad Noyes met in college at Iowa State University in 1994. They immediately clicked over a mutual love for music and quickly started playing in a few bands together, eventually forming their first successful band, Good Things in 1996.

After a year of local touring, Good Things recorded their debut album, Fit the Groove, in 1997. They found some success throughout Iowa, Chicago, Missouri and Minnesota and also saw some radio play on college and small market stations across the mid-west. After a year or two of touring to support Fit the Groove, Good Things split up due to members in the band relocating to separate cities.

In 2001, Rob and Chad both moved to Chicago and right away they hooked up with Jim to start something new. While searching for a new drummer and singer, they were lucky enough to find two talented individuals; one being amazing drummer Michael Mooshey, formerly from the Chicago band The Fez (and before that Seventh Heaven). After several months and several arguments, Rob, Chad, Jim and Mike started to realize that their new singer had differences in the artistic direction in which to take the band, so they decided to part ways. As fate would have it, Jim was living with a friends younger brother, Johnny Alletto.

Johnny was the lead singer of the band Jank, was a trained accapella singer and had been performing acoustic shows for several years around the Chicago-land area. The five of them hit it off and started jamming on songs they had written over the last few years. After a couple months, a good collection of an albums-worth of songs had been born. They decided to name themselves after where it all started ... Ash Avenue; the street where Rob, Chad and Jim lived in college.

Unfortunately, the final band member line up was not settled completely. In the summer of 2006, Mike Mooshey decided to hit the road with a previous band and left Ash Avenue, remaining a great friend to the band. With multiple shows quickly approaching during the summer busy season, Ash Avenue needed a drummer fast. The band was connected with Eric Ellis who had recently moved to Chicago from Cincinnati where he had played in numerous local bands. Once in Chicago, Eric hit the ground running with Ash Avenue, and never looked back.

Ash Avenues brand of rootsy pop-rock has recently started to grab quite a following and their new, debut CD "And Then We Ignite" has garnered numerous rave revie

Sony BMG's chief anti-piracy lawyer: "Copying" music you own is "stealing"

Duluth, Minnesota — Testimony today in Capitol Records, et al v. Jammie Thomas quickly and inadvertently turned to the topic of fair use when Jennifer Pariser, the head of litigation for Sony BMG, was called to the stand to testify. Pariser said that file-sharing is extremely damaging to the music industry and that record labels are particularly affected. In doing so, she advocated a view of copyright that would turn many honest people into thieves.
Pariser noted that music labels make no money on touring, radio, or merchandise, which leaves the company particularly exposed to the negative effects of file-sharing. "It's my personal belief that Sony BMG is half the size now as it was in 2000," she said, thanks to piracy. In Pariser's view, "when people steal, when they take music without compensation, we are harmed."

Pariser has a very broad definition of "stealing." When questioned by Richard Gabriel, lead counsel for the record labels, Pariser suggested that what millions of music fans do is actually theft. The dirty deed? Ripping your own CDs or downloading songs you already own.

Gabriel asked if it was wrong for consumers to make copies of music which they have purchased, even just one copy. Pariser replied, "When an individual makes a copy of a song for himself, I suppose we can say he stole a song." Making "a copy" of a purchased song is just "a nice way of saying 'steals just one copy'," she said.

Countless studies have shown that the majority of music on portable music players like the iPod comes from sources other than download services. For most people, that music is comprised primarily of songs "ripped" from CD collections to MP3 or some other comparable format. Indeed, most portable music players comes with software (like iTunes) which is designed to facilitate the easy ripping of CDs. According to Pariser's view, this is stealing.

We've actually heard something similar to this view before. As part of the 2006 triennial review of the effectiveness of the DMCA, a number of content-related industries filed a joint reply with the government on the effectiveness of the DMCA and the challenges that lay ahead for copyright. The argument relating to CDs espoused in the joint reply could be summarized: although nothing has prevented consumers from making backups of CDs, this cannot be construed as authorization from the music labels for them to do so. Thus, there has been no authorization of said backups, and the coincidental ability to make backups currently should not be mistaken for fair use.

Pariser's views appear to be similar, insofar as she clearly suggests that consumers have no right to make backups of the music that they have purchased in CD form or even in download form.

Mama's Cookin

About The Band:
Shadowside are the rising star of the Brazilian Metal music and one of the most exalted bands in the country. Founded in 2001, they feature a solid instrumental work, with heavy guitars, catchy melodies and a lot of energy and personality in Dani Noldens unique female vocals and sincere, heart-felt lyrics, always about life experiences and problems approached by a positive angle, not only meant to cheer people up but also to make them think. On that same year, they released a self-titled demo EP which surprised everyone and got them respect from the media, in the form of excellent press reviews.

After several gigs with excellent audience response, they were asked to be the opening act for the Finnish band Nightwish, at Credicard Hall, So Paulo, and the result couldnt have been better: the crowd of 7000 people went crazy and reviews were great, some even considering Shadowside better than the main act.

Even independently, they reached a stand out position in the national scene and their work broke the Brazilian frontiers and had an impact in some places in Europe and Japan, selling out all the CD copies and several concerts in only one year of existence. That performance got them co-headlining a few gigs in 2002 with Shaaman, supporting the German band Primal Fear in half their Brazilian tour and playing a special gig in 2004 with Mark Cross (former Metalium and Helloween) and Edu Falaschi (Angra) as special guests.

After this big initial success and an outstanding tour the band entered the studio again to record new material, the now highly praised Theatre of Shadows. The Dancing in the Shadows Tour started in March 2006 with legendary band Helloween with amazing response. Shadowside has recently been awarded best band, best album, best live act and best vocalist of 2006 by several respected media vehicles and journalists, such as Airton Diniz at Roadie Crew Magazine and Rafael Carnovale at Whiplash.net.

The band are now writing the second full album, to be recorded during Summer this year. They promise to deliver an album full of energy, heaviness and intensity, combined with one of the most powerful female vocals ever heard.
Shadowside win international music contest and announce new lineup

 

Shadowside won the "All Things Digital Hard Rock / Heavy Metal" Artist Contest ran by AirPlay Direct, Vigilante Music, Inside Strategy and Indianapolis Metal Fest.

To Dani Nolden, Shadowside lead singer, this prize crowns the success they have been achieving in North America. "We're really proud for winning this. We didn't expect a Brazilian band would come out as the winner, due to the distance. Bands worldwide entered the contest and that makes everything even more important. Before we were even notified of the victory, we were already receiving lots of messages on MySpace congratulating us, which demonstrates the exposition this competition had. This is wonderful to us!"

 

Throughout the month of July, AirPlay Direct, Vigilante Music, Inside Strategy and Indianapolis Metal Fest reviewed material from all the bands until the winner's choice. As a prize, Shadowside will receive a promo campaign in North America and Europe, as well as performing on Indianapolis Metal Fest on September 22 in Indianapolis, IN, US.

It's worth mentioning Shadowside entered the contest with songs Highlight, Here to Stay and Red Storm, tracks from the highly praised Theatre of Shadows.

Also, Shadowside announce the joining of guitarist Raphael "Micheaut" Mattos. He replaces Bill Shadow, who left for personal reasons and not having music as priority. "We have no problems with him whatsoever, we're all still friends and everything happened in the most pacific way possible. Bill called me, talked about how he was feeling and decided he wanted to go for something else in his life. We wish him the best and welcome Raphael, an extremely easy-going, fun guy and insane guitarist! He has an amazingly heavy style and is the perfect musicians for us, I'm pretty sure our fans will be gobsmacked with him!"

Shadowside's current lineup is Dani Nolden (vocals), Raphael Mattos (guitars), Fernando Peto (bass) and Fabio Buitvidas (drums). As of this moment, the quartet goes on with the preproduction of the new album, with a scheduled Fall 2008 release.
