Yes, we know. It was the end, but then we found this one lying around. So here you go. Our "friend" Danny joins us. Mel Gibson Is a Pasty Prick by Vincent Van Go Go, available on the Podsafe Music Network (http://music.podshow.com). We argue about the nature of Oscar prediction versus "my personal favorite". Who got more right. Mikey got Adam Arkin and Miche got Melissa Etheridge right. Miche doesn't like the Sarah Silverman on the Independent Spirit Awards. Sarah's cheese grows. Sarah likes testicles. Miche is not impressed. We love our new limiter. Mike makes his own mic louder. Miche likes Jennifer Hudson's breasts, but thinks she'll be better known for her singing than her acting for the rest of her career. Miche likes Silver Surfer for next year's tech Oscars. Mike plays Pong online. Miche always preferred Centipede. Mike tells a joke. Angelina Jolie goes to Africa, while Brad's movie wins the Oscar. Actors who keep their private lives private. Rainn Wilson and Arcade Fire were awesome on Saturday Night Live. Miche gives props to Jeremy Piven too. Miche likes how SNL is so tech savvy. And we love the Dick in a Box sketch. The "mountain breeze" reference. Ellen, Scorsese and Clint. Naomi Watts and Escada. The RIAA is sue-happy. We announce the Bum Rush the Charts initiative and the March boycott of the RIAA. www.riaaradar.com--check it out to find whether or not your favorite artists are part of the RIAA. Barack Obama and the Prime Minister of Australia. "Escalation" of troop movement. Mike beats a joke to death. Miche still doesn't get it. What Mike knows about weed. Mike is reading Men's Vogue. Tom Vilsack dropped out already. Mike was talking about campaign financing and Miche is engrossed in Second Life. "What are you, Dad?" Hillary's campaign finances. Mike likes John Edwards. It costs each candidate $100 million to get elected.

We start (again) with Vincent Van Go Go's "Mel Gibson Is a Pasty Prick", followed quickly by "FCC" by Moral Decline, both available on the Podsafe Music Network (http://music.podshow.com). We look for any excuse to say "Fuck the FCC!" and "Fuck the RIAA." Satellite, media as we know it. Yes, we go there. We chat up the Sirius/XM merger and how it will affect our listening habits. Dish Network and DirecTV: one or two? People moving to radio on the Internet. Satellite versus podcasting. But where is the best place to get traffic? There are no good outlets in LA right now, in any medium. Mike bores us with detailed LA traffic scenarios. But doesn't like Kansas City for some reason. Mike makes jokes about "flyover country." Miche is not amused. What would we choose if we had the full plethora of choices before us? Steve Jobs' comments about DRM. How DRM hurts their bottom line. Smart Bomb Radio gives us "The RIAA Will Kill Your Dog", available on the Podsafe Music Network (http://music.podshow.com). Prepare to buy a Black Labs song on March 22--"Mine Again." Podcasters need to get paid, just like musicians do. Radio people's salaries. Film studios knocking down movie stars' salaries. If there is a SAG strike, aren't people just going to turn to podcasting? Miche has a bone with the Diggnation guys. Steve Earle's "Rich Man's War"--available on the Podsafe Music Network (http://music.podshow.com)!!!! Check out Democracy Now's Feb. 20 edition for an interesting (and sad) story on Iraq and oil. Whether we are living through unimaginable horrors right now or not. Get all the world leaders high, and have them hash it out. "Have you seen a Republican high?" Rainn Wilson performed this weekend on SNL! With Arcade Fire. Miche liked the "Office" parody sketch. (And it is March before she posts it...)

Miche is the person of recovery who brings forth honesty and integrity, and Mike is the opposite of that. Looking at celebrity's pain from the viewpoint of an addict. Craig Ferguson's transcendant monologue. (See link below.) Miche takes a stance against tabloid journalism. Miche thinks journalists should learn what Alcoholics ANONYMOUS means, even if they have to go to classes to learn it. The line papparazzi need to draw on covering celebrities.
We record the show on Christmas. We are crazy. /"Santa Story /'06/" by Andy Buscemi, available on the Podsafe Music Network (http://music.podshow.com). We talk mindlessly about sextants, and Adam Curry/'s penis. We lose our last listener. Michelle is judgmental. We are shocked, shocked. We LOVE Podshow podcasters. He (or she) rules. The concept of stealing men. Miche calls Mike an ageist. Christmas and dancing naked around fires. BTW, Wicca is NOT a cult. /"He lives a hovel away./" Mike explains how Scientology started with a group of science fiction writers. E-meter? or Lie dectector? Cats that look like Hitler. Mike/'s cat, BK, is a contender. http://catsthatlooklikehitler.com. How Mike saved his cat/'s life by bringing him inside. Mike quotes Calvin Coolidge. Mike gave Michelle an anti-Bush bumper sticker for Christmas. Mike details what it takes to be impeached. Lying is bad. We have breakfast in Hollywood and see Halle Berry in our restaurant. /"I/'m not going to fuck you, just to have a good podcast./" New podcasts we are now listening to: Diggnation. /"Diggnation boys are like crack, I just can/'t get enough of them./" /"Do you like them enough that you/'d take one of them up the butt?/" Miche defends the sexuality of the Diggnation boys. /"They are as hetero as the day is long./" It degenerates from there... /"I/'m in LA, everybody/'s bi in LA./" Mac vs. PC Jumps the Shark, by Smart Bomb Radio, also available on the Podsafe Music Network (http://music.podshow.com).

However, on the PMN, they are listed as Hmmm. Hmmm indeed. We actually taped this in November, which makes slightly more sense.

Miche attempts translation for Mike. Exciting listener mail. Miche clarifies her stand on dating guys who are attached. Miche schools Mike on dating. Buckeye Drive Time played our promo. So we play theirs. Keep it groovy, baby. Who talks over music more--Mike or Michelle? How long should promos be? Mike has never heard the term "Michigander."

The dearth of Oscar contenders. Mikey thinks "Hollywoodland" lacks gravitas. Mike hates Miche's Mac clock. Alec Baldwin is everywhere. "Mike is in bad joke mode."

Miche is hot on "Bobby" for Best Picture. Mike loves it too. Bobby vs. Crash.
We start our sexy episode with a sexy song, "Our Nights" with Love Spirals. (Nothing to do with real life, I assure you.) Give a shout out to the Chillcast with Anjie Bee. Song available at the Podsafe Music Network, http://music.podshow.com. Michelle asks Mike to say all sorts of words that she won’t say. Blue language, for no particular reason. Michelle tries to explain to Michael what crudeness is. (He's from San Bernardino, he won't get it.) We talk about Michelle’s sex life. Michelle believes kids under 18 should not have sex. We ponder what constitutes virginity. Kissing is pretty intimate. Miche explains to Mike that Julia Roberts, being a prostitute, wouldn't kiss Richard Gere in Pretty Woman. Because she was a prostitute and prostitutes don't do that. Donny Osmond thinks a G rating hurts his career. Male whores versus female whores. We wonder if males sleeping around is looked down upon these days. Mike is jealous of Tom Sizemore's sex tapes. Pamela Anderson's sex tape in Borat. Miche admits to being gullible. 30 Rock needs Jane Krakowski back. Miche loves Ugly Betty. Mike tries to call a penis a "pussy tamer," but Miche asserts that is instead the tongue. Naming body parts. Tight pussies. What we would do if we could redo our sex lives. And if we could redo our lives. Miche talks about her wondrous pussy. Mike doesn't think Miche would make a great mom. Miche thinks naming penises is lame. “Why is your uncircumcised penis named Moses?” Miche wants to create a Mike and Michelle Minion Army. George Takei and Masi Oka on Heroes. Why the CW isn't working. Mike thinks they need a Star Trek show. Miche thinks the CW should change their logo to be "Cock World." Mike explains what turgid is. Yet more on Michael Richards. Miche explains the concept of abuse to Michael. How people misinterpret Mike's comments often. He is NOT defending Michael Richards' behavior, even if it sounds like he is.

Fuck the FCC by the Fabrications. Available at the Podsafe Music Network (http://music.podshow.com).

Michelle has slept with more people than Mike. A lot more people. She didn’t used to count oral sex in her "number". She does own up to having a “50 Party” in Detroit, years ago. Michelle has had sex with four different men within a seven-day span. Mike: only three (different women, that is).

As if you haven't had enough already, we give you more on Michael Richards’ tirade at the Laugh Factory. Here’s the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3RjiVcIlhY. Mike deconstructs the video from a comedy perspective. Michelle cites Jamie Foxx’s comment that if he had been there, he’d have beaten his ass. Mike maintains that words do not justify violence as a response. We talk about racism in the United States, how we all are exposed by the media and society to racism, and how it still a huge issue, on both individual and societal levels.

Hillary Clinton. Mike says Bill’s campaigning for Hillary was building favors for Hillary’s 2008 campaign. Michelle still wants Hillary in ‘08. Mike builds the case that Hillary is already running for president. Michelle took John Kerry off her MySpace friends list. Miche likes the idea of a Clinton/Obama ticket, but is concerned about the electorate accepting a woman and an African-American. Mike argues that the geographical backgrounds of the candidates is not anywhere near as relevant as it used to be.

Clear Channel buyout and breakup. Michelle believes that Old Media personalities still don’t get podcasting. Mike thinks that as these personalities move into podcasting, they will bring a lot of their audience with them, who like that glossy radio pose. Mike thinks the ones who figure out how to transition will have an opportunity to garner a larger audience.

Mike says he baked a Thanksgiving pumpkin pie using Splenda, and takes Michelle to task for not getting us endorsements.

He speaks briefly about Tablets sent by Baha’u’llah to world leaders in the late 1860s. We discuss Madge AKA Richard Bluestein AKA DICK and Adam Curry’s long rant. Our advice to Adam: Behind Red Eyes, Bob Narley and the Killer Kona Buds, Clam Jam, off the PMN. Michelle defends Yoko Ono. Mike puts in a plug for the Scriptwriters’ Network. Mike relates a story about his run-in with pro-war demonstrators who were demonstrating against anti-war demonstrators on his way to get a mocha before going to a planned Peace Gathering where he met a stranger in the industry who went to college with a guy who’s now in the improv group Montage Mahal with Mike. Mike talks about the Lesser Peace and Most Great Peace. Michelle’s current thing is Second Life. Mike prefers non-virtual real-life interactions. Michelle had Second Life Sex. Mike loves Tom Cruise’s quote about meaningless sex: "Meaningless sex outside of a relationship is really horrible and pathetic and lonely." - Tom Cruise. Michelle likes the idea of the Second Life jail. Michelle touts the virtues of Eric Rice, a podcaster who’s also an avid Second Lifer. LA County Sheriffs blew up an LA Times newsrack. Michelle talks about seeing a psychic and a psychologist at the same time. Mike explains what he thinks the relationship between these two things may have been for Michelle. Mike quotes from the Gleanings from the Writings of Baha’u’llah on the subject of life on other planets. Mike and Michelle discuss and disagree about whether aliens have actually visited earth. Michelle thinks they have. Mike doesn’t think the current evidence bears it out. We’re the hillbillies and the scousers of the galaxy. We finally open a bottle of Trader Joe’s sparkling cranberry. Mike talks about Scripture on the Internet, including Buddhist, Hindu, Christian, Muslim, and Bahai. We talk about the Christian guy in Afghanistan who was threatened with death by the government there, which leads to talk about the sex-slave trade in Turkey. Fortunately, our attitude on slavery has changed markedly from two centuries ago.

Simon’s next spoof is of Jamie Cullum, to be called Coffee Jazz. Michelle’s sister Maureen also chastised us for confusing the Netherlands and Holland. Mo also referenced Queen’s Day, which, Mike had learned from a veteran of Amsterdam’s Boom! theater, is a big partying day. Mike’s friend Sue also wrote us. Our bottle of Knudsen’s sparkling apple cider was sabotaged. Michelle talks about Indie 103 a lot while Mike fetches paper towels. Michelle brings up DC and Marvel Comics’ efforts to trademark the term super-hero, with the goal of preventing competing comic book companies from using the term. We think they’re full of it. Bob Saget is directing a parody called Farce of the Penguins. We segue into talking about Scientology and the South Park episode, Trapped in the Closet. Mike goes on about the McDonalds suit in England a couple of years ago. Mike breaks down how Scientology was explained the South Park episode. Thetans and such. Mike defends the right of Scientologists to believe what they want, and goes on express his firm belief in the individual investigation of spiritual truth. Mike also believes in the free marketplace of religious ideas, and that religions shouldn’t keep doctrinal secrets and charge people money to disclose them. Anyone who wants to read what Mike believes can go to the Baha’i Library website. Mike references the late science fiction writer Jerome Bixby, a contemporary of L. Ron Hubbard’s early in their careers, and the story of how the idea of starting a religion to make a lot of money came up. They actually had the same literary agent, Forrest J. Ackerman. Michelle references having gone through Jerome’s library and Jerome had a lot of early Scientology books. It’s not on the PMN, however, Mike received permission from the artist to use it. We then play the three very brief clips from the South Park episode Trapped in the Closet, and we again do NOT find time during the episode to actually talk about. Mike screws up his cues - for the umpteenth time. Mike does the world’s worst Nixon impression. Mike talks about guild issues with producers - compensation for product placements in scripted television, distribution over the Internet, and the basic and pay cable agreement. Mike favors a single worldwide iTunes, with all content being available worldwide to everyone. Residuals bar in Studio City used to take any residual check in exchange for a drink. Michelle shows more love for Rainn Wilson and The Office. Michelle is math-phobic. Mike’s been milking the birthday desert coupon he got via e-mail from Coco’s. Mike and Michelle make fun of Mattt the waiter’s spelling of his name. Mike was loopy at the restaurant because he hadn’t eaten for 12-14 hours. We talk product placement in scripted television and cite the ridiculous example from Alias. We plug stuff too, and conclude we should ask Trader Joe’s for a sponsorship. Mike thought we’d get to another point related to actors and contracts, but we wound up putting it off for a future show. Mike teases Michelle for not reading the links Mike’s been putting in the show notes. Mike and Michelle trash the draconian user agreement contract issued to anyone who wants to post on The Envelope. Michelle used to write detailed analyses on the Gold Derby site before the LA Times bought it and rechristened it The Envelope. But no more. Michelle offers her Oscar congrats. Michelle broaches the issue of some people saying Brokeback Mountain did not win Best Picture because Academy members such as Ernest Borgnine and Tony Curtis refused to watch it. Mike and Michelle explain their opinions on the issue. We point out that Brokeback has led to a slew of major gay-themed film projects getting greenlit, and Ang Lee got Best Director. We also agree that overall Crash was a better film.

Mike recommends the John and Elizabeth Edwards podcast, not for political reasons but because they get what podcasting is about. Michelle showers her praise on Nate and Di. She loved their audio work in church. Michelle waxes rhapsodic about the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, and likes the approach of the Podcast Hotel concept. She also sings the praises of MySpace. The band Killola has used MySpace very effectively as a marketing tool. Newspaper subscriptions are dropping, and the newspaper industry doesn't get it. Newspapers no longer offer fresh information, because it's all already online. The mainstream press - newspaper and television - reporters are in bed with the people they're covering, their sources. Michelle defends Peter Jennings. Mike points out most mainstream media is owned by huge corporations, hence they're part and parcel of the corporatocracy. Mike again talks up documentaries such as "Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room". Mike knew some of the information presented in the Enron doc from listening to Democracy Now. Michelle trumpets PopBitch. She wants CGI, so we close the show with the Suddden Death song.

Boobs disagrees with Filmsnob as to the number of awards Brokeback will rope. Boobs is out front with some predictions. Best Actor: Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Best Supporting Actor: either Clooney or Giamatti; Boobs gives Jake G. a slight chance. Brokeback will not win Cinematography, because it's up against Good Night and Good Luck as well as The New world. Best Supporting Actress: definitely not Michelle Williams, because she's up against Rachel Weicz and Amy Adams. Adapted Screenplay: Brokeback may win, but there are a lot of other great choices. Original Score: Brokeback may win, but Bat and Boobs agree that it wasn't their favorite amongst the nominees. Best Picture: Boobs predicts Crash will win. Best Director: Boobs likes George Clooney. Bat explains his opinions about Brokeback and Munich. Bat puts his own spin on the now-famous Adam Curry "Vulcan mind trick" belch. And thanks to Adam Curry for running our promo. Bat and Michelle delve into the Danish newspaper Muhammad cartoon controversy in some depth. We open with “Favorite Things” by Stuckey and Murray from the Podsafe Music Network. We love this song! We uncork and quaff Marchet de Monde French Cider from Cost Plus. Bat buckled the open driver’s door on his LeSabre against a frikkin’ plant. Bat and Boobs had the lamest Christmas Eve. We just didn’t do anything. Pizza on Christmas Eve. Fun With Dick and Jane and King Kong on Christmas day. Not much to say about Dick and Jane. Bat and Boobs both liked the Peter Jackson flick. The death of Kong sparks a discussion about life and loss. We stayed at Treasure Island in Vegas for a couple of days before Christmas. Boobs likes TI better. Bat prefers The Rio. Boobs waxes rhapsodic about a TI soap called “Wet”. She has no idea there’s also a line of personal lubricants by the same name. Bat was bent the Sirens of TI boat show was dark. Boobs lists her ten events of 2005. Bat can only come up with three for himself. Hurricane Katrina and the government meltdown go under the microscope. Boobs wishes for 2006 that we not forget the lessons of Katrina. Bat goes on and on about the corporatocracy. We play a song just for Adam Curry. From the PMN, of course.

Bat and Boobs continue discussing Good Night and Good Luck. Actor Ray Wise was the third guest, along with George Clooney and Grant Heslov. Bat talks about attending screenings as a SAG member. Boobs likes the George Clooney. Very hot in person. Bat and Boobs received a complimentary book about the film at the screening. Boobs disses the boxing movie again (Million Dollar Baby). Bat opines that Hillary Swank, Jennifer Garner, and Matt Damon are all the same person. George Clooney is lobbying for Matt Damon to be named Sexiest Man Alive. Boobs thinks next year belongs to Orlando Bloom. People’s editors pick the Sexiest Man Alive based on who they think will sell the most magazines. It’s also often tied in to who has a movie coming out. On to Golden Globe speculation. Bat points out our friend owns a movie theater in Hemet, and they’re holding on to Good Night and Good Luck. The film will be nominated for a lot of Golden Globes, and be on the various critics’ lists. Bat’s suggestion for this segment’s name: Boobs Blows Oscar. Boobs brings up the new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and Kiera Knightley’s shot at a nomination. Bat compares her performance unfavorably to Scarlett Johannson in Girl with a Pearl Earring. Boobs thinks a Joan Allen nomination for Upside of Anger would be totally justified. Memoirs of a Geisha - 38% at Rottentomatoes.com. Bat thinks they could have considered casting Japanese actresses. Boobs thinks the story is sexist and abusive of women. The book was written by a man, the film was directed by a man, so it’s already offensive to Boobs. Boobs contrasts this with the film about Edward R. Murrow, which in every way resonates with where we are today. Boobs adds that’s how a Best Picture should be done, not simply relying on a best-selling novel. Bat asks if How Green Was My Valley was based on a best-selling novel. It was. Folks at goldderby could not find a best pic nominee that fell below 50% on the rottentomatoes scale. Boobs deducts that Memoirs is out of the running for Oscar. Boobs brings up The Producers. Says the foreign journalists hate it. Bat and Boobs run down the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Boobs says The Producers will be dissed at the Golden Globe noms this week. Bat lists off some of the possible comedy actor nominees for the GG’s. Jim Carrey, Tea Leoni, Steve Carrell, Vince Vaughn, Katherine Keener, Owen Wilson. TV categories at the Golden Globes. Bat and Boobs both love Weeds. Bat says they could easily make Weeds an hour show and keep the quality. Jeremy Piven should get nominated for Entourage. Bat thinks Piven should be the next Bond. Convo careens to Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Patricia Clarkson, and Ally Sheedy. Clarkson and Sheedy starred in High Art, which Bat loved. Boobs hasn’t seen, and was turned off by Ally Sheedy’s 40-minute acceptance speech at the Independent Spirit Awards. Bat points out High Art was directed by the same woman who’s behind Showtime’s The L-Word - Lisa Cholodenko. Boobs wants Hal Sparks to host the next Oscar show, since Chris Rock turned it down. Bat doesn’t think Sparks is high enough on the celebrity totem pole to get a call. Boobs also likes the idea of Steve Martin coming back, because he was the best host since Johnny Carson. Boobs hated Rock as a host, but she did allow that the ratings were good. Boobs has somewhat against how the Oscar telecast is run today. Acceptance speeches are what matters, and thirty seconds isn’t enough. Cutting off the speeches drives Boobs crazy. She thinks cutting the speeches short is the very reason they’re losing viewers. Bat suggests Kanye West for the next Oscar host. But not seriously. Boobs calls Joan Rivers a dumbshit. Boobs also likes Ellen Degeneres and Whoopi Goldberg. Bat suggests Conan O’Brien. Bat wants Triumph the Insult Dog on the Red Carpet pre-show. More on Hal Sparks and Queer As Folk. Boobs adds the woman in Junebug, Amy Adams. And Vera Farmiga in Down to the Bone. Boobs hopes Gilmore Girls gets its due in the Golden Globes television category. Bat says Alexis Bledel was great in Sin City. More Carla Gugino talk. Bat liked her last year in the TV show Karen Cisco. Discussion goes to nudity - or the lack thereof - in Sin City. Bat and Boobs agree that Jessica Alba’s character really should have been naked, because it would have given the relationship between her character and the Bruce Willis cop character an entirely different dynamic. We sign off.

Boobs references the old quiz game “You Don’t Know Jack”. Bat opens a bottle of peach Sonoma Sparkler he picked up at Loma Linda Market in Loma Linda, owned by the Seventh-Day Adventists. Loma Linda is famous for the University Hospital where the baby got the baboon heart a few years ago. Bat’s provided large green goblets he picked up at Le Target. Boobs says it’s the best, and she keeps saying the same thing. Talk about the evil coffee establishment Starbucks (ref: The Spy Who Shagged Me) that carries Izze, Izze being the canned sparkling juice we had a couple of weeks ago. Bat and Boobs talk about the Echo and the Bunnymen concert they attended Wednesday evening. Bat thinks lead singer Ian McCulloch ruined his voice with cigarettes. Boobs had a great time because she was dancing with a cute boy. Next topic: Bat tells a Second City story - he’s a student of improvisation. One of his instructors is Dave Razowsky, who is amazing. He also references writing instructor Amy Seeley - also quite good. Boobs moves on to the holiday season. The Christian Right wants people to wish each other a Merry Christmas instead of Happy Holidays, because they want to put the Christ back in Christmas. Convo diverges into the fact that Bat and Boobs are not attached or an item or whatever. We’re sort of like brother and sister, though Boobs usually tries to deny even that. We talk about driving through the ritzy Beverly Hills shopping area. Bat compares to a new outdoor shopping place in Rancho Cucamonga, and compares the stores. Boobs liked the lights on Hollywood Boulevard. Bat didn’t really notice. Boobs thinks Bat is so jaded. Bat and Boobs talk Indie 103 and Jack FM in Los Angeles. Bat talks the Byzantine gifting rituals of Hollywood, and references regifting. Boobs is appalled, says she would NEVER regift. Bat cites example of A or B level actor who receives a half-dozen iPods as gifts. That actor is going to give the extra iPods to assistants and such who received no iPods. Boobs allows that that’s different. Bat then asks Boobs, what if she received a bottle of liquor? She says anything alcoholic she’s going to give away, because she has 15 years of sobriety. Bat’s made his point, finding two examples of cases where Boobs would regift after she just said she’d NEVER regift. Boobs gave Bat flowers after his Second City performance, which he shared with his fellow cast members. Bat, Boobs, and the Cannon-Balls (named after fantastic wonderful instructor Kay Cannon, whose husband is on SNL) ate at Zeke’s on Santa Monica next to the Formosa Cafe. Bat can’t recommend Zeke’s. He likes the Szechuan eggplant at the Formosa. Unfortunately, the Formosa was closed. Boobs thinks Zeke’s wasn’t horrible, but it was no P.F. Chang’s. Bat talks up dinner there.

Segue to film awards talk. Bat think Sam Rockwell and Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy deserves more love at awards time. Boobs offers Sam sex. Bat and Boobs agree that Rockwell deserves the Sparrow Award - named after Johnny Depp’s Pirates character Jack - for most amazing off-the-wall performance. Bat points out that as Depp used Keith Richards, Rockwell used George W. Bush. Boobs talks about seeing Good Night and Good Luck a second time - she picked up a lot of nuances in the film on the second go. George Clooney and Grant Heslov take on the media in this film. Boobs says one reason she’s podcasting is to be an alternative voice to the Old Media. Bat and Boobs talk about the changes in how people get their news. The wider range of sources. The bias of sources. Boobs has reached her saturation point in terms of celebrity news. Bat gets his news from CNN.com, Democracy Now!. Boobs likes the International Herald-Tribune online, and Toronto’s Globe and Mail. Bat references the Guardian UK as a strong news source. Boobs goes off on ABC News’ podcasts. She hates the commercials and didn’t like their right-wing slant. Bat says people may become accustomed to commercials in podcasts. Boobs thinks we need to head that off at the pass. Boobs says that except for Adam Curry’s podcasts, she’s not listening to podcasts with commercials. Bat defends ads in podcasts, points out that Accident Hash is sponsored by Earthlink and CC runs the Earthlink ads. Bat cites the NPR/Pacifica model of fund drives. Bat thinks the Film Club offered by KPFK during their fund drives is probably the best deal, bang for the buck, of any radio sponsorship deal. Bat and Boobs bat around different ideas for this show. (continues into Episode 011)

(Totally our best show yet, and the first one we actually consider to be good) God Bless Trader Joe’s. Boobs recaps our impressions of the Portable Media (Podcast) Expo. We saw the future. This is what media is going to be. We’re going to get podcasts on our phones. We’re going to get podcasts everywhere. Basically, podcasting is the future, in the same way that ten years ago, the Internet was the future. Bat asks, “So the Internet is now the past?” Boobs says, “Kind of, yeah. Or at least the present.” What is really really the past is dated things like newspapers, magazines, radio, and to some degree television. Bat somewhat disagrees. Old Media will find a place. Radio used to be the place where all the dramas happened. Radio became the place where all the music happened. If TV hadn’t come along, would radio have been free for the advent of Elvis Presley and later, the Beatles? Bat thinks radio will adapt, survive. Boobs continues to slam Patrick Goldstein - he doesn’t get new media. Bat adds that to the credit of the studios, they’re manipulating the people in this New Media environment to talk about, i.e., ADVERTISE, their product by burning so many bytes discussing the Academy Awards and other awards. Boobs says bad publicity is bad publicity, that doesn’t get butts in seats. Bloggers know what’s good and what’s bad by hearing from people who have been involved in various stages of the production and seen the finished product first. Bat talks about how the studios manipulate the talk at sites like Aint It Cool News by submitting “plant” reviews. Side discussion about Harry Knowles and other guest co-hosts who worked with Roger Ebert before he settled on Richard Roeper. Bat goes on about a recent AICN post about a casting call for Battle Angel Alita. He thinks it was probably bogus. Getting back to Patrick Goldstein and goldderby/envelope, Boobs says the awards show season is an industry. The new season starts the day after the ceremonies. Boobs points out there were no Oscar-bait films until late in the year, except maybe Sin City. Bat says, Joan Allen in Upside of Anger. Bat and Boobs sing the praises of Joan Allen, and agree that Kevin Costner was good. Then disagree about Tin Cup.

Bat opens up the first installment of our regular gold derby (The Envelope) feature. Boobs shares her predictions of likely nominees. Actress first. Charlize Theron in North Country. Bat points out the director also did Whale Rider, which belongs at the top of your Netflix cue right below Chaplin. Bat’s dad loved Whale Rider. Bat’s policy vis a vis his dad - who passed in June - was that life was too short for movies that sucked. Bat’s son effed with that by showing him Van Helsing. Boobs enjoyed watching Angels in America with Bat’s dad. Felicity Huffman in TransAmerica. Reese Witherspoon in Walk the Line. Boobs doesn’t think she’ll win. No money scene. Boobs would even pick Joan Allen in Upside of Anger over Reese. Bat asks what Halle Berry’s money scene was in Monster’s Ball. Boobs says the sex scene. Bat says the final scene. Boobs agrees. Halle had multiple money scenes. Bat recalls predicting Halle would win for Monster’s Ball as he walked out of the theater after seeing it (in Santa Monica, with Boobs). Bat says he’s usually bad at predicting Oscars. Boobs says Bat’s been doing better than her lately. Bat liked the stupid boxing movie (Million Dollar Baby). Bat liked Rene (in Cold Mountain). Zhang Ziyi for Memoirs of a Geisha. Ziyi was great in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Bat’s Ziyi money scene was the barfight. Boobs says that type of scene doesn’t win Oscars. On to Best Actor. Joaquin Phoenix in Walk the Line. Boobs says he was better than Jamie Foxx in Ray. Bat complains about his tension headache. Says he could have gone to a Walk the Line screening with Robert Patrick speaking, but passed. Boobs is pissed. Patrick was amazing. He could be up for supporting actor. Boobs also liked Ginnifer Goodwin, who was also one of the high points in Mona Lisa Smile. More best actor - Heath Ledger for Brokeback Mountain. Bat says, gay cowboys. Johnny Depp for The Libertine is a possibility. It’s a period movie. You get metaphorical points for that. Bat liked Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Bat voted in the SAG awards for Johnny Depp for Pirates of the Caribbean, and he won. Bat does his Sean Penn impression from Mystic River. Boobs is predicting Phillip Seymour Hoffman will win Best Actor for Capote. Last nominee will be David Strathairn for Good Night and Good Luck. Bat and Boobs both love the movie, feel the message resonates as strongly today as in 1958. Bat mentions Robert Downey Jr. Boobs says Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - with Bat and Boobs also both liked - won’t be nominated for anything. Eric Bana for Munich is a question mark. Bat asks, no chance for Johnny Knoxville in Dukes of Hazzard. Bat brings up King Kong. Boobs apologizes and mentions Naomi Watts as a Best Actress possibility. Nobody’s bringing up Adrian Brody for King Kong, but Jack Black is a possibility for supporting. Bat compares Kong to James Dean in his coolness. Best Director. Peter Jackson for King Kong. George Clooney for Good Night and Good Luck. Clooney’s previous directorial effort was Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. Boobs loves Sam Rockwell. Ang Lee for Brokeback Mountain. Lee’s previous gay foray was The Wedding Banquet. Rob Marshall for Memoirs of a Geisha. Susan Stroman for The Producers. Bat waxes poetic about Uma’s performance in Kill Bill Vol. 1. Boobs liked Prime, and liked Uma in Prime. Uma held her own with Meryl Streep. Boobs forgot to mention Steven Spielberg for Munich and James Mangold for Walk the Line as director possibilities. Sin City still on Bat’s short list of best films of the year. Bat compares Frank Miller’s graphic novel panels to a film storyboard. Boobs cites the Directors’ Guild of America booting Robert Rodriguez over Sin City as another example of Old Media not understanding New Media. Another director possibility is Terrence Malick for The New World. Back to supporting actress. Boobs predicts Sandra Bullock will be nominated for Crash, and may win. Boobs slips in her mandatory plug for Indie 103. On to Supporting Actor. Robert Patrick. Matthew Broderick for The Producers. Back to supporting actress, Sarah Jessica Parker is a possibility for The Family Stone. Supporting actor - Jake Gillenhall for Brokeback Mountain. Frank Langella for Good Night and Good Luck. Bat says Langella is also good in the HBO series Unscripted, produced by George Clooney. Bat goes off on a tangent about how everyone in Hollywood sleeps together in a giant mansion in the Hollywood Hills. Boobs says she hopes Jim Carrey is nominated for Fun with Dick and Jane, but she knows he won’t be. Bat says he was robbed last year for Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Boobs adds that Paul Giamatti was not nominated last year for Sideways. Bat adds that he was amazing too. Bat adds that Carrey and Giamatti starred together in Man on the Moon. Boobs adds Giamatti as a supporting actor possibility for Cinderella Man. Boobs wants to move on to best picture. After jokingly mentioning The Dukes of Hazzard and The Wedding Crashers, Bat praises The 40-Year-Old Virgin. Bat says he could totally see Steve Carrell getting nominated. Boobs agrees he could be nominated for a comedy Golden Globe. Bat opines that the Academy should have separate acting categories for comedy and drama. On to Best Picture. King Kong. Memoirs of a Geisha. The New World. Munich. The two films Boobs thinks (Bat wound up doing the show notes a week later) will be fighting it out for Best Picture are Good Night and Good Luck, and Brokeback Mountain. Boobs thinks Syriana is just too violent for Best Picture. Supporting actress - Judi Dench for Mrs. Henderson Presents. Bat explains the basics of the picture to Boobs.

Bat talks about Oscar-bait films with Nazis. Bat and Rick both love the Nazi SS uniforms from a fashion perspective. Bat points out the US Marines patterned their dress uniforms after the Nazi SS garb. Bat praises most of the films he loved this year thus far. Sin City, with Mickey Rourke. Harry Potter and Goblet of Fire. Boobs says it will get nommed for effects and score. Serenity. Boobs says it won’t be nominated for anything. Boobs speculates about original and adapted screenplay nominations. More Serenity talk. Rick jumps in. Talk about how Fox Television screwed around with Firefly. Not having watched the series, Bat explains what little he knew about the Firefly/Serenity universe going in to the film. All humans in space. No floating muppets (Bat and Boobs add they both loved Farscape). Actor playing the assassin in Serenity in Dirty Pretty Things with Audrey Tautou was amazing. Boobs comes up with his name: Chiwetel Ejiofor. Bat liked Nathan Fillion in the movie as well. Boobs adds Fillion has a nice butt. Bat puts in a fresh plug for a podcast called The Signal. End of gold derby talk. On to other podcasts we like. Boobs likes The Catholic Insider. Boobs now likes RocketBoom. Cush - Things I Say. It’s going on Boobs’ must-listen list. Bat talks up Sam and Jim Go to Hollywood. Bat complains about missing a week of the Answer Bitch (turns out she took Thanksgiving week off - without announcing on her podcast in advance). Bat talks about the value of the back catalog. Discussion segues to Old Media deejays like Jonesy on Indie 103, Jim Ladd on KLOS, Halloran in San Diego, and Rodney on the Roq. Very few could actually play what they want. Strength in music podcasting is in podcasters playing whatever they want. Bat speculates that perhaps the RIAA is waiting to see whether monetized podcasts emerge with the revenue base to pay RIAA licensing fees. Boobs hopes that doesn’t happen. Bat thinks the podsafe work Adam Curry is doing may circumvent that from happening. Boobs and Bat disagree yet again about Mary and Karla. Boobs liked Karla in person though. Karla and Sexy Boyfriend got Bat into the Yahoo party at the Portable Media (Podcast) Expo. Boobs met Nate and Di. Keith and the Girl. Bat met the Girl. The Girl was cool. Insytworks.com mentioned one of Boobs’ other podcasts (Whispered Pearls). Dick Cheney in an SS uniform outfitted with a Darth Vader box in Laura Bush’s B&D dungeon. Bat and Boobs give out their e-mails. Show closes.

Back to tradition. Bat Rastard opens a bottle a sparkling apple-pear Crystal Canyon non-alcoholic, with wire and a cork. Boobs likes it. Miche liked a pear schnapps in Germany. Mike pops his cork. It's our virgin cork pop. We toast the Future. From Big Lots--$1.99. Miche wishes everyone happy Thanksgiving. Bat and Boobs joke about our tardiness in getting the podcasts up. Miche has been listening to old Dawn & Drew. Ours don't suck so bad now. We talk about how our podcasts have sucked because Bat took the lead and was in charge. Boobs is now taking the lead in the show, has her list. Bat is list-less and will be surprised. We are not talking about Lost or Veronica Mars, per Miche. Bat talks about the headache he’s had for the past two weeks, aka family drama. (skip this boring part) He talks about the Hawaiian-themed massage place he visited in Highland. No happy ending. Larry sent us an e-mail. Boobs reads. Larry critiques us about the mic input levels. Otherwise Larry says, “great show”. Boobs brags about Adam Curry talking about her other podcast ("Whispered Pearls") on his Daily Source Code. Curry and his wife talked about Boobs’ poem about the perfect penis (aka Deep Throat). Boobs goes on the next topic, suggested by Curry. "What are we mad about?" (Boring as hell, skip forward to minute 19. You won’t miss a thing.) Bat drones on about how he would prefer Congress to be elected by party slate rather than by district, and he says we could get rid of the electoral college. He think more people would vote Green or Libertarian if we did this. He drones on more about corporations being legal persons. Bat drones on about non-partisanship in the administration of elections. Boobs says turn it all over to Black Box. Boobs is mad about how the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina (www.jadebelle.com) has been handled. Boobs’ friend Jillian says not to donate to the American Red Cross. She suggests Habitat for Humanity, because they are actually participating in the rebuilding process, and they still need your help. Bat gives props to Jimmy Carter. Says Clinton was the first black president because he’s the first one to understand the black community. Bat says Edwards is mad at John Kerry for how he handled the campaign and post-election in 2004. Bat puts forth theory that Kerry threw election because his buddies at Skull & Bones ordered him to. Bat’s theory about GW Bush: ball-gag-wearing submissive. Boobs brings up Cheney and Rove. Bat opines that Rove’s a sub too, and Laura makes GW and Rove do demeaning and humiliating things to each other. Boobs asks Bat if he spends a lot of time thinking about the sex lives of Republicans. Bat blames the Ibuprofen. Boobs changes subject to Madge Weinstein, iTunes and free speech. Bat loves iTunes. Boobs loves Steve Jobs and Apple, but is bummed that Whispered Pearls is not up there yet. Bat agrees with Apple bouncing Madge for bad taste. Boobs and Bat contemplate whether to refer to Madge as a he or a she. Boobs says Madge looks like a guy with a wig and bad makeup, but since he's from Chicago, he's ok. Bat says he’s more likely to have Kibbles & Bits than a camel toe. Bat congratulates Boobs on Adam’s mention of the show. More about the perfect cock. Bat opines it’s really about the man attached to the cock. Boobs says, no, it’s the cock. Bat and Boobs put in a plug for the movies Henry & June, The Dreamers and Sex & Lucia. Kevin Spacey, Uma Thurman, Maria de Madeiros, Fred Ward. People-watching, yet not Wood Central. Boobs knows when a guy who looks at her is going to pleasure himself to her breasts. Mike knows their personality, Boobs knows their sexuality. At the Orleans. Boobs doesn't say "whack off" ever. Bat doesn't get it, because he doesn't have boobs. Back to Madge. And iTunes. Bat brings up that "eargasm" nonsense again. Boobs insists he NOT do that again. Bat guesses that iTunes doesn't want to open their doors to "XXX content." Podcast MILFs.com. Bat will sell them all for a good price. Wants to go to Bang his cock, er, I mean Bangkok. Podcast Alley, Odeo, Podcast Pickle. Podcast Wars is fun. iPodder.org. Bat loves tech-geekettes. Few of these at the Podcast Expo. Bat talks about girls who could "just take him." Bat hints at girls who didn't take him recently. We threaten to talk about that again someday. Bat and Boobs talk Vegas hotels, agree that the Rio’s a good place. Because it's not as far off the Strip as the Orleans. Three-star hotels versus four-stars. The Rio is no Mandalay Bay, but it's better than the Orleans. No romance suites for Bat and Boobs. Everyone wanted to stay in Vegas over Thanksgiving, but Bat got to see his nieces and nephew at least. Since we drove, we listened to a lot of cool podcasts: Daily Source Code (every day), Podfinder. Bat riffs more about Madge and other podcasts. Bat talks the importance of script in dramatic podcasts. Boobs says there are two kinds of podcasts: professional stuff ported from Old Media, and homegrown stuff like ours. Miche prefers the homemade ones. Bat defends his efforts at going for professional sound. Bat’s got mail. Boobs brings up Leo LaPorte. Bat says it sounds like a pornstar name. Bat lists all the people he’s talked smack about that he’s going to get disappeared for. More on Madge and what s/he said about Steve Jobs. Boobs would do him (Steve Jobs, that is). But not Bill Gates. Bat tells bad joke. Boobs waxes poetic over the Creative Cow podcast. We recommend Franklin's podcasts. Boobs gives a shout out to Suzanne and Robin at InsytWorks. They’re amongst her favorite people at the Expo. Boobs also likes Cush: Things I Say. Bat turned Boobs on to Hip Tranquil Chick. Keith and the Girl is one of Boobs’ favorite new podcasts. Boobs doesn’t like the Answer Bitch (E! Online). KATG is in the top ten on Podcast Pickle. Boobs also gives a shoutout to Soccergirl, and how she talks about sex, and she's on iTunes. Boobs lets out that she’s going to expose her breasts for her Whispered Pearls podcast. Miche guffaws at Bat. Boobs disses Alias. She’s glad Alias is cancelled, but still loves Lost. She tired of all the Rimbaldi stuff. Bat and Boobs discuss Garner doing the karate kicks pregnant. Bat says it’s really uncomfortable to watch pregnant women in movies fighting. Mike wants her to sit behind a desk and fume. He proceeds to call her Miche's least favorite adjective: "cow." The new Alias montage at the opening, which features Garner on parade. Bat and Boobs can’t remember the name of the actor Ron Rifkin or his character Arvin Sloane. Boobs remembers his wife was played by Amy Irving. Arrested Development is not cancelled (yet). DVD sales are good. We give the cast props. Miche loves Mitchell Hurwitz. Bat puts in another plug for offering TV shows through iTunes. Bat wants to talk about Drawn Together soon. We pray for better sound and shorter addresses. Mike drones on until we fall asleep...Miche cuts him off.

Boobs and Bat Rastard introduce themselves. Podcast Expo for a moment. We thank Engineer Danny for letting us use his studio. Dell vs. Apple swag. For one show only, Engineer Danny is here. Mike asks a Lindsay Lohan question. Danny asks who Lindsay Lohan is. We discuss our tradition of drinking something at the top of the show. Michael has already opened the drink, while Miche was in the bathroom. Miche chooses to not partake of the drink. $1.99 stuff. Miche is mad because Mike opened it without her. Costco, Trader Joes and Big Lots. Miche wants to move on. Mike indulges in a drink. Miche drinks water. Miche talks about the concert she saw last night, Urge Overkill at the Viper Room. Band from Chicago. She attended with Jade. Lot of cute guys there. We were scoping. Most of them were attached to females. Miche has morals occasionally. "I Will Steal Your Boyfriend." Miche says the breasts announce that for her. Mike wants to know when "the first time" Miche stole a boyfriend from someone. Miche avoids the question. Miche gets on Mike's case about having no pre-taping meeting. The drunk guy at the Viper Room, nearly falls into Jade. Mike tries to drag out a story about alcoholics out of Miche. She doesn't go there. "A galaxy far far away" is Mike's overused phrase of the week. Mike talks about working security at Disney, at Tomorrowland. This is very boring, you can skip over it. Can you tell Miche does the Show Notes? ;-) Drunks at Disneyland. Mike finally segues to his personal life, which is actually more interesting. Or at least, more real. NoCal Sis. Mike talks about his mom being a refusenik in the hospital, refusing to leave when discharged. The skilled care facility. Travails with his mom. Emotional neediness. The mom and Mike's similarities. Mike and Engineer Danny exchange swearing IMs mid-convo. More about Mike's mom. Mike's dad, a real gentleman. Note the timecode of Mike actually showing emotion, cause it won't happen often. The difficulty of caring for parents in advanced age. Mike likes pseudonyms for everyone. Miche gives props to her sister. Mike finds it difficult to say actual words when expressing emotion, hence "mum", "budder," "dod", etc. Mike counsels people to volunteer at retirement homes. Miche offers that the PC term is "assisted care". Mike gives props to Pacific Coast Hellway. Miche is still pissed at them, for the "abducted by aliens" podcast. Miche stopped listening at that time. Mike thinks that was beautiful. Manipulating the audience. Miche thinks podcasting is about honesty, authenticity and integrity. Mike thinks it's about whatever the podcasters make it. Miche accuses Mike of being fake. Mike takes advantage of Miche's vulnerability and gullibility. Podcast Expo, finally. PCH disses the Podcast Expo. PCH didn't like how "white and male" it was. That is how all early adopters are. Miche says there were people of color and women there. Miche wants to catch up on all the Podcast Expo podcasts. Too many. Portable Media vs. Podcast Expo. Mike had lunch at Little Tokyo with NoCal Sis. Engineer Danny flies the bird at Mikey. Mike had tempura, not sushi. Miche thinks that's sacraligious. Engineer Danny recommends Shabu Shabu. Lots of good sushi in LA, says Miche. NoCal Sis takes in George Takey (sp?) in "Equus." They went on a Japanese-American museum tour. Star Trek didn't come up at all. She did meet George's significant other, though. A big bear of a guy. They've been together for 18 years. Mikey recounts waiting for NoCal Sis, and talking to some Asians and a guy wearing a "The The" shirt. Sound issues. People who aren't familiar with podcasting. Miche gave her card this week to a guy who doesn't even have a computer. Santa Monica writing teacher finally gets off of dial-up. Miche applauds. Mike convinced Miche to get OSX. UNIX stuff in OSX. Miche wants to learn how to do that. Linux for Dummies. Mike's mom's dogs miss Miche. Mike calls them names. Miche calls them Penny and Suzi. Mike doesn't like dogs who bark. And notes that the dogs miss Miche. Ita, aka Alpha Bitch. Endless boring dog issues. These dogs aren't as ugly as street dogs in Taiwan. If Mike calls them "little bitches" one more time, I'm going to throw up. Boa Derek again. Mike's kindness with animals. Miche wants to actually talk about something. Podcast Expo and technology. Another guest arrives. The new world of technology according to Miche. LA Times article about the Podcast Expo. Ms. Preparation. Miche wants to end this abysmal podcast. We give addresses. Bat Rasturd. Mike doesn't like the term Shoutout. Miche says she uses it anyway. Naked women always good. Mike is going to take the camera to the skilled care facility. Miche tells Mike about the twirl filter in Photoshop. Sometimes things are real, you just gotta believe them. Miche thinks we are boring people. So we close.

We open another beverage, after dealing with some sound issues. Mike doesn't agree with awards. Miche promises listeners that we won't be discussing Veronica Mars or Lost for several podcasts. More about the Podcast Expo. Miche wants to somehow capture the excitement of the weekend. And calls it life-changing. Compares it to the first Digital World, with Thomas Dolby. And the woman that Blinded Me With Science was based on. That was the closest vibe to this conference. Mike says it's the "early adapters." Every one of us has a podcast, and all of us are talking about the Expo on our podcasts. Mike credits "Thailand" with being an amazing computer whiz, and he might ask him about some of the technical glitches we are having. Miche says everyone starting out has problems. Miche believes in being in the moment. Mike snores. Yahoo's party was amazing. A long Podcast day. Miche gives Jade Belle and Whispered Pearls plugs. Miche gives out the addresses. Erotic podcasts and bones. Mike wants to probe Miche's penis theory, but she remains tight-lipped. Boobs or no boobs. Penis or no penis. In the Michelle Universe of Objectification. Lost Veronica Mars. Lost this one. Old Crumpets will be posted soon. Mike wants to talk politics. Miche says people don't "want to hear another political podcast." Does Arnold have a big one? We don't go into it. Bodybuilding penises. No packages. Mike as a teacher. Term paper on steroids. Miche talks about Danny Bonaduce on Dicky's show this week, who did steroids, and explained that they were oily with big needles. (Gratuitous Indie 103 plug.) Mr. Olympia, not Mr. Universe. Good eating and genetics. Mike goes back to politics. Three-lane bowling alley. President Bush and Laura. They would fit right in in Orange County. Sex toys. Highest per capita sales of sex toys are in Orange County. Jade pipes in. Conservatives are the biggest perverts. Leather, boots, whip. The corporatocracy disappearing us. The Bushes sex life. Miche working at Playboy. George Bush Sr. and Lynn Martin. George W. Bush and Condoleeza Rice. Miche and Jade laugh. It's all just a theory. The good old days of blowjobs. Miche volunteers to blow George W. to get us out of the war. Refresher courses in ethics. Miche thinks we've been talking for a long time (this is actually show 4). Podcast Expo. Mike says Portable Media Expo. Miche says next year, it'll be the Podcast Expo. Even if you listen to us on a phone, or pocket PC, god bless you. Listening on 8-track tape in your '73 Pinto, more power to you. The Pinto 500 picture on Carson. Miche wants to thank all the podcasters we spoke with. Mike thinks it will be bigger next year, and the seminars will be different. More vendors, likely. Couple of companies we didn't see--like Apple, iRiver, Zen, Dell? Why weren't they there? We love Steve Jobs and PIXAR. Chicken Little versus The Incredibles. Podcasting for Dummies book. Podcast Pickle. iLounge. Leo LaPorte broadcasting from the show. Orange County podcasters. Creative Cow has cool buttons. AKG microphones and headphones. Where were they? Music 123, or Pacific Stereo. Why weren't they there? Miche wanted to see podcasters in booths. An area for the podcasters. A creative cafe, where people could hang out and talk. The iLounge should have been bigger. Next year, Mike thinks it'll be over 10,000. Someone said 2500 were there, but one of the keynotes said it was 700. Miche thinks that was for the conference only. Miche says 10,000 attendees is bigger than MacWorld. Mike says a large percentage of Apple's revenue is iPods. Apple as entertainment company. Most of the studios will be on board with delivering by iPod by next year. Releasing a feature-length film on an iPod? Mike bitches about other networks not getting on board with the $1.99 for an episode of their shows (Veronica Mars). BitTorrent! Yay! We wanna throw money at you. CBS does pay per view for CSI. But it's not enough. The way I want it, when I want it. ABC wins. De-Clear Channel themselves. We got it, what people want. Broadcast media has died. The revolution has begun, and it will be podcast, as Adam Curry says. Mike doesn't think radio will die, but be transformed. Their audiences aren't going to be as large as they were. Podcasts are better, but the traffic reports are out of date (credit: Pacific Coast Hellway). TV didn't kill radio, movies didn't kill TV, VCR didn't kill movies, DVD didn't kill movies, podcasting won't kill anything. More than any of those changes, this will change media. Radio was completely transformed by TV. Great radio drama on podcasts now. Miche defends Survivor. But doesn't talk about the Fox reality shows. Wife Swap should have been a cable show. Every area has art and trash. And everything in between. Madge. Tiki Bar TV. Dawn and Drew. Tech podcasts. Radio podcasts. NPR and Democracy Now! Improv podcasts. Sound is a problem with some podcasts. Overly broadcast and overly produced. Mike uses his radio voice. He's no Steve Jones. Jones was the Voldemort of this podcast, according to Mike. Jade says that Mike talks and talks and talks. THE END.

Mike and Michelle just returned from the Portable Media Expo, which Michelle insists on calling the Podcast Expo. They brought along Jade (from "The Jade Belle Show"). She chimes in occasionally. Mike enjoyed meeting Soccergirl. Miche liked that she flashed her tits at her. Oh, but that was only in Miche's fantasy. Oops. Mike, however, did flash Soccergirl. But we'll get to that. Miche wants to drink first. This week, it's an Izze. Two flavors: blackberry and clementine. The requisite Trader Joes plug. Mike insists on plugging Costco. But let's get back to Soccergirl and Mike's penis... Miche could see Mike's pubes from across the hall from what he calls "a peek." Mike details what he did before Miche got there, passing out cards. The Boobs name is now ingrained. (Sigh.) Miche delineates the difference for Mike between mere breasts and BOOBS. Mike slams Raquel Welch, which is simply not allowed. Mike insists that everyone in LA visits the "body shop" to stay young. Miche says it's something in the water in LA. Mike gives away Pam Grier's secret for her complexion. You don't wanna know. Since Pam Grier wasn't at Podcast Expo, Miche wants to move back to topic, and the actual celebrities who WERE there. Like Adam Curry! :-) We love Adam Curry. Mike likes Karla (of Mary and Karla). And Dawn and Drew, the celebs of the show. Mike calls them "the Grateful Dead of early podcasters." The cult of celebrity at the Podcast Expo. What does next year hold? The Pacific Coast Hellway guys. Shout out to Ben, who helped us with our WordPress. Miche is astonished by all the people we met. We talk about the documentary guys who interviewed us, whose names escape us. Miche remembers they were from Chicago. Mike talks about how people generate content, and how we heard a lot of technical stuff. Mike gives away PCH secrets of creation. Shout out to Mark (YN) and co. Miche gives a shoutout to all the LA podcasters. We move to the conference itself. Miche sees a disconnect between the conference sessions and what the conference actually was. The people being more exciting than the sessions. Mike says there were a lot of "geeks." Supposedly the listening audience is mostly male. Mike mentions knitting podcasts. Miche thinks it's weird. They both love Leo Laporte. He gave a great keynote. Laporte talked about the importance of free. My Name Is Joe Parillo. The whole monetization concept. Repurposing content. Old school making money stuff versus the love of podcasting. Miche trashes the woman from MTV UK. Know your audience, with two blank screens. Mike makes a lame RIAA joke. Copyrighted music and the way to reach an audience. Illegal downloading and sales rates. People who download also buy more music. Radio, radio. Indie 103 plug. Sheet music was afraid of vinyl. Film afraid of VCRs. But in reality, they made more money from them. Cinderella repurposed. Mike on the soapbox against the RIAA. Mike slams KLOS. Miche comments on large corporations repurposing content, and how they defend their hold on it. Corporations don't understand the podcasting revolution. Mike disses traditional radio, comparing them to NPR. Mike does a bad Jonesy impression, and Miche gets pissed. Miche says no one in media gets it. Mike talks about some things Pacific Coast Hellway are doing to give extra content to Sirius and podcasters. Miche says big media doesn't get it. Mike mentions Old Crumpets.com. Jade finally mentions how excellent X was. Mike's being dorky. You can fast-forward past this part. Miche mentions how people danced at X, even though people don't really dance in LA. Mike brings up Lost and Veronica Mars again. He tries to corner Miche into this, but she won't buy it. Miche does admit to loving Buffy and Angel. She does say that Joss Whedon is a genius, although he does have a lapse of memory which causes him to say weird things to the press. Mike reads Joss Whedon's quote about Veronica Mars. We mention The Signal, a great Serenity podcast. Mike thinks it's a good podcast for writers. Miche falls back on the Emmys that Lost won, compared to none for Veronica Mars. Best Dramatic Series is what Lost won. Miche puts Buffy second after Lost. Mike says the Emmys and Oscars are biased against straight-up comedy. We love Jim Carrey and Eternal Sunshine. Miche likes the Dick and Jane preview. Genre films winning or not winning. Lord of the Rings. Miche compares the five shows up for awards. Six Feet Under. Deadwood. The last season of 24. Very unlikely things happen in 24. The West Wing. Buffy didn't get nominated. Well, except for makeup and hair nominations. And a writing nomination for Hush. Miche doesn't want to like Veronica Mars. PAUSE.

You Don't Know Jack. Mary and Karla ref. Mike denies being a homophobe. We start with our drinking ritual. Bat Rastard offers Boobs a choice of beverages to open the show. She chooses a Pear-Apple sparkling beverage from Trader Joe’s. Microphone crotch, penis cast. SNL from December 3 and host Dane Cook. Boobs thinks he’s hot (and funny). Bat thinks he is talented and Jim Carrey should watch his back. Fun with DICK and Jane. Red wine goblets from Le Target. Our friend Rick Dawes joins us without a mic. Rick does know about sound. Boobs toasts Rick. We discuss the interesting tangents of SNL. SNL disses Riverside, California as least literate city in the U.S. Rivalry between San Bernardino and Riverside. Mike's response to Riverside: Rubidoux. The lake in San Bernardino soon. Boobs gives props to goldderby.com, now called The Envelope. Boobs and Bat discuss Patrick Goldstein’s Los Angeles Times column. The Goldstein article slams "bloggers" who prognosticate on the Awards. He was actually slamming bona fide journalists. Miche thinks his criticism is misplaced. Mike sneaks in a Veronica Mars reference. Mike tackles the "why do people vote for awards?" question. Bat thinks the focus should be on which movies are worth seeing, as opposed to which movies are Oscar-bait. Best Picture? Most resonant? The "Boxing Movie" of last year (Million Dollar Baby). Titanic. American Beauty. LA Confidential. Mike's dad liked it a lot, especially James Cromwell's accent. Mike says he's not a fanboy, then relates how he approached Curtis Hanson in a restaurant. Boobs lost it seeing Toby Maguire at Swingers. (He was very muscled.) Tobey's gotta buff up for Spider-man 3. More about Goldstein’s piece. Bat cites Academy "misfires" - Citizen Kane passed over in favor of How Green Was My Valley. We love Roddy McDowell. The Dreamers. Michael Pitt. Academy rules. Miche would have picked Forrest Gump. Pulp Fiction vs. Forrest Gump in terms of cultural impact. Rick disagrees. He defends Forrest Gump’s groundbreaking use of special effects. Bat agrees, and points out Tarantino’s impact on how other filmmakers tell their stories. Boobs brings the argument back to Goldstein’s article and the impact of online bloggers. Boobs points out Academy voters visit goldderby and other bloggers’ sites, and this has an impact. Bat as a SAG member voting for SAG awards. Miche thinks that goldderby does provide a service, in planting the seed of what people are considering before most noms come out. SAG Awards voted on by a large number of people, who do tend to see the things they are voting on. 115,000 SAG members worldwide. About three-fourths voted last year. SAG's Best category versus Supporting. Keisha Castle-Hughes from Whale Rider and Dakota Fanning. Boobs says Patrick Goldstein is operating from the standpoint of Old Media. Everyone he criticized: Jeff Wells, David Poland, Sasha Stone, Tom O’Neill--Boobs respects far more than Goldstein. Journalists and writers are there to give people a sense of what's good and what isn't. Boobs defends bloggers who base their predictions on various factors (critics’ awards, other award nominations). There is a lot of validity to what they do. Year after year, it's proven itself. "Bloggers have picked the winners every year I've been on Gold Derby." Boobs and Bat debate The Hours. Nicole should have won for Best Supporting Actress, perhaps, but not Best Actress. Mikey liked Claire Danes. Julianne Moore. Meryl Streep. Miche liked her in Prime, and Angels in America. Toni Collette. Ed Harris. They are talking about Claire Danes for Shopgirl this year. Too many bodies in Munich? And in Pulp Fiction? Gratuitous violence? Lord of the Rings? Bat upsets Boobs by wanting to kill this topic. Boobs says the flow of discussion was stopped. Dead air at this point. Boobs goes to next topic - positivity vs. negativity. Bat being a dick. Bat shares about how friends have up moments and down moments. Adam Curry about how people come at celebrities in reaction to their own reality. Hemingway. Being promoters of one's work. Salvador Dali. Celebs who feel strongly about keeping their private lives private. Bat speaks about a time someone said something to him that he took in deeply, and it caused him to draw back emotionally from people in general for years. Miche is so pissed at Mike, she's not speaking. Our new e-mail account: mikemiche@gmail.com. Send us comments. Tell us how much we suck. Bat thinks Boobs doesn’t roll with the punches. Boobs thinks Bat is arrogant. We end, and Boobs throws things at Bat off-mic. She promises to be nicer next week.
